INDIA HAS A DISPROPORTIONATELY HIGH BURDEN OF CHRONIC RESPIRATORY DISEASES

It has 18% of the world’s population but 32% of the global burden of respiratory diseases.

Pollution is the biggest contributor to the respiratory disease burden.

A recent survey reflected that 63% patients (mean age 43.6 ± 18.5 yrs.; M: 58.9%) presented to the doctors, were suffering from chronic respiratory diseases (CRD ).

The most common respiratory diseases are Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) (29.6%), Tuberculosis (TB) (23%), Asthma (22.5%) and Allergic Rhinitis (8.4%).
